Design NOT context sensitive. Ignores historically green architectural practices that utilize local materials (xypress, oak & pine), deep porches & eaves for sun protection, strategically located full length windows & doors to maximize cross breezes. No welcome frontage for urban sociability.

I agree with ddsaul - the design is good from a green standpoint but lacks new orleans flavor. windows could be larger too, and paint it something bright!

This is a good design because it maximizes a great city's natural resources. I suugest some french shutters, a little spanish wrought iron and a stoop for visiting. Can't forget the cultural aspect of housing that makes New Orleans powerful

I recently visited this house currently under construction in the lower 9th ward. This photo is fron the perspective of the rear view. The roof slants towards the hot noon to evening sun to benefit the rooftop solar collectors. There are less windows on the sunniest side. 2nd floor roof is green.

I must comment on those who criticize rebuilding in NOLA. Not all of the city is below sea level and it was not the hurricane winds but the inadequately built levees that caused the flooding. People have lived in the Holy Cross neighborhood for centuries! This is sustainable AND very liveable!!

This sets a standard of beauty plus sustainability. Trees that grow quickly will provide shade. Solar direction of house is great, too. As a New Orleanian, I thrilled to have this example here!

This design doens't look very sustainable to me. Large expanses of wall without sun protection and windows without shading. In New Orleans' hot humid climate this would be an oven.
